Research and development
- Monitoring and researching HIV-related situations and developing responses
- HIV prevalence surveys, especially among vulnerable target groups such as people who inject drugs, men who have sex with men, etc.
- Contributing to legislation and influencing health policy.
- Sharing evidence-based information with decision and policy makers.
- Developing measures to promote safer sexual behaviour among young people.
- Participating and coordinating national and international working groups and projects.
- Cooperation with ministries, professional associations, and non-profit organisations in Estonia and internationally.
Services
- Diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections for vulnerable populations (people involved in prostitution, people who inject drugs, men who have sex with men).
- Voluntary HIV testing and counselling.
- Psychological, social and peer counselling for people living with HIV and their families.
- Case management for people living with HIV.
- Harm reduction services, including needle exchange and counselling for people who inject drugs, opioid agonist treatment etc.
Training and information activities
- Training courses, guidance, and information materials for professionals.
- Publication of information materials for the public and vulnerable populations.
- Administration of the website www.hiv.ee that provides information for the public on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
Activities and targets in the field of HIV prevention are agreed in the Population Health Development Plan 2020–2030.
